Plain handles first, styling second

An aesthetic username has two parts that follow different rules. The handle is the unique name that goes after the @ and in your profile link. On almost every platform it accepts only ASCII letters, numbers and a small set of symbols, usually the period and underscore. The display name is the friendly name at the top of your profile, and it generally accepts Unicode, so styled letters work there.

This page therefore gives you two kinds of ideas. The first five groups are plain ASCII handles that follow the common rules. The last group contains styled display names you can copy into the name field. Using both together gives you a searchable handle and a decorated profile.

Part Allows styled letters? What to do
@handle or username Almost never Use plain letters, numbers, dots, underscores
Display name Usually Paste a styled version
Bio Usually Style a short heading
Link in bio No Plain text

Building a handle that feels aesthetic

Most aesthetic handles are built from a formula: a soft or imagery word plus a noun, in two or three parts.

  1. Pick a mood word: soft, quiet, moon, moss, honey, paper, film, lofi, ivory.
  2. Pick a noun: diary, hours, notes, letters, bloom, window, pages, days.
  3. Combine with a separator or none: “moonlit.margins” or “paperbacksummer”.
  4. Check the length: many platforms cap handles at 15 to 30 characters, so shorter is safer.
  5. Read it aloud: if you cannot say it, friends cannot find it.

Avoid strings of digits or random capital letters. They feel messy and are difficult to share. A readable handle is easier to remember and easier to type from a screenshot.

Platform rules at a glance

Rules differ, and platforms change them, so treat the table as a general picture and check each sign-up field.

Rule Typical Notes
Characters Letters, numbers, period, underscore Some apps exclude one or both separators
Case Usually not case-sensitive Capitals may be shown but not distinguished
Length Varies by app Shorter is safer across apps
Changes Often limited Pick carefully
Spaces and emoji Not allowed Use separators or join words

For game-specific rules, see our Roblox username ideas, where length and underscore rules are stricter.

Using the styled display names

The styled names in the last group show how a display name can look without touching the handle. To use them:

  1. Copy a style you like.
  2. Open your profile and find the Name field, not the username.
  3. Paste and save.
  4. Check that it looks right on another device.

For more styles, use the stylish name generator and the aesthetic fonts page, which show every style at once.

Consistency across platforms

Using one handle everywhere helps people find you, but only when it is free on each platform. Check availability on the apps you care about before you commit, and keep a backup variation. If you cannot get the same handle, use the same base words with a small change, such as an added letter or a different separator, so that people still recognise you.

Privacy and safety

Public handles are searchable and often stay visible. Avoid putting your full name, birth year, school, address or phone number in a handle. If you are under 18, check the rules and safety guidance of each platform with a parent or guardian. Avoid handles that imitate real people or brands, since platforms can remove them and others can be misled.

Accessibility

Styled display names are fun, but screen readers may read each letter as a technical name. Keep your handle plain so that people using assistive tools can mention or find you, and put your real topic in plain text in the bio. See our guide to fancy text accessibility.

Make it yours

Treat every idea here as a seed. Swap a word for one that matters to you, such as a place, a hobby or a colour, and keep the shape. A handle that means something to you will feel more authentic than one copied from a list.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use fancy letters in my @username?
On most platforms, no. Handles generally accept only plain letters, numbers and a few symbols such as periods and underscores, and the exact set differs by app. That is why the handles in this list are plain ASCII. The styled versions are for the display-name or profile-name field, which usually accepts Unicode.
Why are some handles with dots or underscores not allowed?
Each platform sets its own rules. Many allow periods and underscores but not consecutive ones, or not at the start or end, and some allow neither. Check the sign-up field. If a handle is rejected, remove the separator and join the words, or swap a dot for an underscore.
How do I check whether an aesthetic username is available?
Type it into the sign-up or edit-username field. Most platforms tell you at once whether it is taken. These handles are original ideas, but someone may already have one. Add a word, a number or a different separator if it is taken. A short, readable variation beats a string of random digits.
What makes a username aesthetic?
A consistent mood: soft words, nature, night, film or books, combined with a clean shape. Two or three words, no more than about 16 characters, and no random digits tend to feel calm. The same feel across platforms helps people recognise you, but check each platform's rules first.
Should I put my real name in a username?
Only if you are comfortable with it. A username is public, can be searched and may be visible for years. For privacy, many people choose a theme word instead, and avoid birth year, school, city or anything that identifies them. You can always put your name in the display-name field later.
Can I copy these usernames?
They are ideas, written originally for this page. Use one if it is free, or mix two together. Check that a name does not imitate a real person or brand before you register it, since impersonating accounts can be removed by the platform.
