Key facts
- According to third-party testing, BGMI and PUBG Mobile draw player names with a font bundled inside the game, so a character your phone shows can still appear as an empty box in the lobby.
- The 14-character BGMI name limit comes from third-party guides; Krafton does not publish it on a page we could find.
- BGMI's Help Center says you can change your nickname once per day, that a used Rename Card disappears, and that a name someone else already has is not allowed.
- Small caps is the style most likely to render in a BGMI name because its letters come from widely included phonetic characters; bold, cursive and gothic letters more often show as boxes (not tested in-game).
- In a BGMI name the ꧁ ꧂ frame costs two characters and ×͜× costs three, and bold or cursive letters count as two in software that counts UTF-16 units.
- BGMI's Help Center says free Rename Cards come from the level 3 and level 10 Progress Missions and that more are sold in Shop → Treasures; the 180 UC price comes from third-party guides.
Where fancy letters work on BGMI / PUBG Mobile
Each BGMI / PUBG Mobile profile field has its own rules. Open Compatibility & details on any style above to see whether your text fits.
- Player namePartly
Limit: 14 chars
Third-party guides give a 14-character maximum, symbols included. The game draws names with its own bundled font, so some valid Unicode shows as empty boxes even when your phone displays it fine.
- Clan namePartly
Clan names are decorated the same way, but we found no published Krafton limits or character rules. Expect the same box problem as player names.
- Socials and streams (YouTube, Instagram, Discord)Yes
These use your phone's or browser's fonts, not the game's, so a much wider range of styles displays correctly.

BGMI draws names with its own font, so a name that looks fine in WhatsApp can show empty boxes in the game. Small caps are the style most likely to render, the 14-character limit is a third-party figure, and the rename preview is the final check before you confirm.
How to use the BGMI name style generator
- Type or paste your name in the box at the top. Every style updates as you type.
- Pick a style. Small caps is the safest for BGMI’s own font; use the Frame menu or the Build a name button to add symbols and watch the count.
- Tap Copy on the row you like, then paste it into the rename box and look for empty boxes before you confirm.
Why BGMI is different from other apps
PUBG Mobile is the global mobile version of the game, and BGMI (Battlegrounds Mobile India) is the version for India, published by Krafton. Players often use the two names interchangeably when asking about nicknames, and third-party guides describe the same name behaviour for both. We have not found official rules for either, so the notes on this page are not confirmed for each version and region; test in the rename preview of the game you play.
On Instagram or WhatsApp, a styled name displays if the viewer’s phone has a font for it, and modern phones cover almost everything. BGMI and PUBG Mobile work differently. According to third-party testing, they draw player names with a font bundled inside the game. Your phone’s fonts don’t help.
That has two consequences:
- A name can look perfect when you paste it and still show boxes in the lobby, because the paste box and the in-game nameplate may use different fonts.
- What works for one player’s name should work for everyone’s. If every copy of the game ships the same font, a character that renders for you in-game should render for your squad too. That makes testing reliable once you can see the result in the game itself.
Krafton hasn’t published the list of characters its font includes, and we haven’t mapped it. The advice below is based on which kinds of characters are most widely included in fonts, not on a tested in-game list.
Name ideas that fit 14 characters
Every example is counted in Unicode characters. Use them as they are or type your own name above.
| Name | Characters | Built from |
|---|---|---|
| ꧁ꜱʜᴀᴅᴏᴡ꧂ | 8 | Royal frame + small caps |
| 乂ᴠɪᴘᴇʀ乂 | 7 | 乂 frame + small caps |
| ʀᴏʜᴀɴ々 | 6 | small caps + 々 |
| ᴳʰᵒˢᵗ亗 | 6 | superscript + 亗 |
| ʜᴜɴᴛᴇʀ×͜× | 9 | small caps + ×͜× (three characters: ×, a combining mark, ×) |
| ★ʀɪʏᴀ★ | 6 | stars + small caps |
| ᴋɪɴɢ々 | 5 | small caps + 々 |
| ꜱɴɪᴘᴇʀ亗ᴀʀᴊᴜɴ | 12 | two words joined by 亗, a common way to fake a space (see the invisible character tool for the blank-character alternative) |
Before pasting, say each one out loud: if your squad can’t call you by it during a match, it’s too decorated.
Picking characters that are likely to render
| Character type | Example | Likelihood of boxes in-game |
|---|---|---|
| Plain letters and digits | Shadow07 | None |
| Small caps (phonetic letters) | ꜱʜᴀᴅᴏᴡ | Low; these are common in fonts |
| Tiny superscript | ᴳʰᵒˢᵗ | Low to medium |
| Popular frame symbols | ꧁ ꧂ 亗 乂 々 ★ | Varies; test each one |
| Bold, cursive, gothic letters | 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗼𝘄 𝓢𝓱𝓪𝓭𝓸𝔀 𝕾𝖍𝖆𝖉𝖔𝖜 | Higher; these are math symbols that many game fonts skip |
| Rare alphabets, glitch text | runic, Yi, stacked marks | High |
Bold, cursive and gothic letters come from Unicode’s Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block (U+1D400 and up). They are well supported by phone fonts, but a game font built for menus and nameplates has little reason to include them. If you love the look, try one in the rename preview before committing.
Counting toward the limit
The 14-character limit comes from third-party guides; Krafton doesn’t publish it. Symbols count, and a few look like one character but are more:
- ꧁ ꧂ are one character each, so the royal frame costs two.
- ×͜× is three code points.
- Bold, cursive and gothic letters are outside Unicode’s Basic Multilingual Plane. Software that counts in UTF-16 units sees each as two, so if a name that should fit is rejected for length, those letters are the likely reason. Small caps letters count as one either way.
BGMI names for boys
Small caps and superscript come first because they are the most likely to render in BGMI’s own font; heavier math letters are left out on purpose. Counts are Unicode characters taken from the generator, and the 14-character limit is a third-party figure. The last two rows use a symbol, so test them in the preview.
| Name to copy | Characters | Fits 14? |
|---|---|---|
| ᴀʀᴊᴜɴ_ᴏᴘ | 8 | Fits |
| ᴠɪᴋʀᴀᴍ々 | 7 | Fits |
| ꧁ᴢᴀʏɴ꧂ | 6 | Fits |
| 乂ꜱɴɪᴘᴇʀ乂 | 8 | Fits |
| ᴳʰᵒˢᵗ_07 | 8 | Fits |
| ★ᴋᴀʙɪʀ★ | 7 | Fits |
| ᴅᴀʀᴋ亗ʀᴀʜᴜʟ | 10 | Fits |
| ʀᴇᴀᴘᴇʀ×͜×ᴏᴘ | 11 | Fits |
BGMI names for girls
The same advice applies: small caps or superscript, and one or two common marks. The last row is too long on purpose, to show how a long frame plus two words overshoots 14.
| Name to copy | Characters | Fits 14? |
|---|---|---|
| ᴘʀɪʏᴀ♡ | 6 | Fits |
| ☆ᴍɪʀᴀ☆ | 6 | Fits |
| ꧁ᴀɴᴀɴʏᴀ꧂ | 8 | Fits |
| ᴢᴏʏᴀ_22 | 7 | Fits |
| ᴬⁱˢʰᵃ | 5 | Fits |
| ♡ʀɪʏᴀ♡ | 6 | Fits |
| ʟᴜɴᴀ々 | 5 | Fits |
| ꧁ꜱɪᴍʀᴀɴ亗ᴘʀɪʏᴀɴᴋᴀ꧂ | 17 | Too long |
Ideas by role
Squads often name themselves after what they do in a match. These keep the role short and readable so callouts still work:
| Role | Example | Characters |
|---|---|---|
| Sniper | ꜱᴄᴏᴘᴇ×͜×ᴠɪʀ | 11 |
| Rusher | ʀᴜꜱʜ乂ᴀᴀʀᴀᴠ | 10 |
| In-game leader | ʀᴀʜᴜʟ亗ɪɢʟ | 9 |
| Clan tag + name | ᴛᴇᴀᴍ亗ᴀʀᴊᴜɴ | 10 |
The sniper frame ︻デ═一 you’ll see on name lists is four characters plus a space, and it includes a katakana letter and a box-drawing line. That makes it expensive against a 14-character limit and a likely candidate for boxes in a game font. It looks better on a YouTube banner than on a nameplate.
Common mistakes
- Pasting from a phone keyboard app without checking. Some keyboard “font” apps insert characters from rare blocks that the game is unlikely to draw.
- Hiding your name completely. A name made only of symbols can’t be called out, searched, or reported correctly, and teammates will give you a nickname anyway.
- Mixing too many styles. Three or four different alphabets in fourteen characters look like noise at nameplate size.
BGMI name symbols
These are the symbols BGMI players use most. Unicode names come from the Unicode character database and counts from the generator. Whether BGMI’s font draws each one is third-party and untested here, so every row needs a check in the rename preview. The text decorator wraps a name in any frame here.
| Symbol | Unicode name | Characters | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| ★ | Black star | 1 | Common in fonts; test in the rename preview |

| 彡 | CJK ideograph 5F61 | 1 | Used in the star-wave look; test in the rename preview |
Vibe presets and how long they are
The vibe labels are ours, not Krafton’s. Because BGMI draws names with its own font, these builds stay with small caps, which is the style most likely to render, and flag the one build that uses heavier letters. Each was generated here and is counted in Unicode characters against the 14-character limit that third-party guides report.
| Vibe | Name | Characters | UTF-16 units | Built from | Box risk in-game |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rusher | ×͜× ʀᴜꜱʜᴇʀ | 10 | 10 | Small Caps + ×͜× in front | Low to medium; test the ×͜× |
| Sniper | 亗 ꜱɴɪᴘᴇʀ 亗 | 10 | 10 | Small Caps + Kanji mark | Varies; test 亗 |
| OP | ꧁ᴏᴘ꧂ | 4 | 4 | Small Caps + Royal frame | Low; test the frame |
| OP, heavier | ꧁𝕺𝕻꧂ | 4 | 6 | Bold Gothic + Royal frame | Higher (math letters) |
| Soft | ☆ ᴍɪʀᴀ ☆ | 8 | 8 | Small Caps + Stars frame | Low |
The risk column repeats the table above: small caps are common in fonts, and bold and gothic letters come from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, which a game font may skip. It is a guide to what to test, not a tested result.
A few notes on adapting them:
- The count is the easy part. Every build here has four or more characters of spare room under 14, so you can add a clan tag of two or three characters. Keep the tag short, because the same tag is spent from every squadmate’s name.
- Spaces count too. If you need room, remove the spaces inside a frame before shortening the name.
- Say it out loud. A vibe is only useful if your squad can call it in a match, so the Sniper and Soft builds work better with a name that is easy to pronounce.
The Build a name button above the style list lets you set the start and end separately and shows the running count against BGMI’s 14.
How to rename in BGMI
- Design the name here and copy it. The Frame menu in the generator adds ꧁ ꧂, ★ or ⚔ around your text.
- Find a Rename Card in your inventory. BGMI’s Help Center says you get one free from each of the level 3 and level 10 Progress Missions, events sometimes give more, and you can buy them in Shop → Treasures (third-party guides put the price at 180 UC; check the shop).
- Use the card and paste your name into the box.
- Look closely before confirming. Any empty box or question mark means the game font lacks that character. Remove it and paste again.
- Confirm, then check your nameplate in the lobby or a match to make sure it looks right where others see it.
BGMI’s Help Center page on changing your name (checked October 2026) adds two rules: you can change your nickname once per day, and a name someone else already has is not allowed. It does not give a length limit.
A rename card is a limited resource, so it’s worth getting the name right on the first try. If your preview isn’t clear, choose the more conservative version: small caps with one frame symbol.
Clan names
Clans use the same decorating style, for example ꧁ᴛᴇᴀᴍ꧂ or 亗ᴡᴀʀʀɪᴏʀꜱ亗, and the same bundled font applies. We haven’t found an official length limit or character list for clan names, so the last column below only compares each name with the player-name figure as a guide. Keep the core word readable so players can search for and recognise the clan.
| Clan name | Characters | Fits 14? |
|---|---|---|
| ᴡᴀʀʀɪᴏʀꜱ | 8 | Fits |
| ʀᴏʏᴀʟꜱ | 6 | Fits |
| ᴴᵘⁿᵗᵉʳˢ | 7 | Fits |
| ᴿᵒʸᵃˡˢ | 6 | Fits |
| ꜱʜᴀᴅᴏᴡ ᴄʟᴀɴ | 11 | Fits |
| 亗ᴡᴀʀʀɪᴏʀꜱ亗 | 10 | Fits |
| ꧁ᴅʀᴀɢᴏɴꜱ꧂ | 9 | Fits |
| ꜱʜᴀᴅᴏᴡ ʜᴜɴᴛᴇʀꜱ亗 | 15 | Too long |
Outside the game
Your YouTube channel, Instagram profile, Discord server and stream overlays use the viewer’s own fonts, so the full range of styles works there, including the bold gothic and cursive letters that may fail in-game. Many players keep a simple in-game name and a more elaborate version for socials.
For a stream overlay, thumbnail or channel banner, a picture often beats Unicode: it can use any lettering style, colour and outline. The Lettering Image Maker creates a transparent PNG of your name that you can drop into OBS or a thumbnail editor, so the overlay matches your in-game name even when the fancy version can’t be drawn by the game.
The stylish name generator has longer frames and combinations for those places, and the text decorator holds every frame on its own. If you play both games, the Free Fire name style page covers Garena’s rules and its shorter limit. For the technical reason boxes appear at all, see why fancy text shows boxes.
In short, use the bgmi name style generator to design the name, and let the rename preview in your own copy of the game decide whether every character displays.
