Key facts
- A stylish name generator wraps your name in a Unicode letter style and a frame such as ꧁ ꧂, so you copy and paste the result into a game or profile with nothing to install.
- Bold, cursive, gothic, outline and black-square letters count as two UTF-16 units each, while small caps and most frames count as one, so small caps fit tighter name limits.
- The 12-character Free Fire and 14-character BGMI name limits are reported by third-party sources only; neither Garena nor Krafton has published them.
- Fortnite display names are 3 to 16 characters and Discord display names 1 to 32; the Instagram name field takes 30, but the @username allows only letters, numbers, periods and underscores.
- The ꧁ ꧂ frame is Javanese Left Rerenggan (U+A9C1) and Javanese Right Rerenggan (U+A9C2), ornamental marks from the Javanese script of Indonesia.
- The symbol ×͜× looks like two characters but is three, because the curve is a combining mark, so decorative symbols are often the hidden cost when a name is rejected as too long.
A stylish name is your name written in fancy Unicode letters, usually with a frame such as ꧁ ꧂ around it, and copied as ordinary text. It works in any field that accepts those characters, such as an Instagram name, a Discord display name, a bio, a comment or a game name box.
How to use the stylish name generator to make a name style
- Type or paste your name in the box at the top. Every style updates as you type.
- Pick a style and a frame. Every row is already wrapped in the ꧁ ꧂ frame; change it from the Frame menu, or choose No frame to save characters.
- Tap Copy on the row you like, then paste it into your game, Instagram name or Discord display name.
Worked example: a compact name
Typing Rahul with the Small Caps style and the Royal frame gives ꧁ʀᴀʜᴜʟ꧂, which is 7 characters. Paste it into your Instagram Name field (not the @username) or any name box that accepts fancy text. If you use it in a game, remember that the game limits are third-party figures, so check the preview before you spend a rename.
The three parts of a stylish name
Almost every stylish name you see in a Free Fire lobby or an Instagram profile is built from the same three parts. Once you can see them, you can build your own and copy and paste it into the name field instead of borrowing someone else’s. Names you type here never leave your browser.
| Part | What it does | Examples | Where to get it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Letter style | Changes the look of your name itself | 𝓡𝓪𝓱𝓾𝓵 · 𝕽𝖆𝖍𝖚𝖑 · ʀᴀʜᴜʟ · 🆁🅰🅷🆄🅻 | The styles above |
| Frame | Wraps the name on both sides | ꧁ ꧂ · ★彡 彡★ · ♛ ♛ · 𓆩 𓆪 | The Frame menu |
| Symbol | A single mark of attitude or identity | ×͜× · 亗 · 🦋⃟ · ࿐ · ︻デ═一 | Typed or pasted by hand, or the text decorator |
You rarely need all three. A strong letter style with one frame usually looks better than a name buried under ornaments, and it leaves room under the character limit.
Stylish name formats to copy
Each example below is built from real characters. The characters column counts the way most apps do, one per Unicode character, and the extra columns show why a name can still be “too long” when it looks short.
| Format | Example | Characters | UTF-16 units | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Royal | ꧁𝓡𝓪𝓱𝓾𝓵꧂ | 7 | 12 | The classic. Bold cursive + Royal frame |
| Royal wings | ꧁༺𝓟𝓻𝓲𝔂𝓪༻꧂ | 9 | 14 | Adds Tibetan ornaments ༺ ༻ inside the frame |
| Star wave | ★彡ʀᴀʜᴜʟ彡★ | 9 | 9 | Small caps keep it compact |
| Attitude | ×͜×🆁🅰🅷🆄🅻 | 8 | 13 | ×͜× looks like two characters but is three |
| Butterfly | 🦋⃟𝕬𝖗𝖏𝖚𝖓 | 7 | 13 | The diamond around 🦋 is a combining mark; some apps drop it |
| Clan tag style | 亗 丂卄卂ᗪㄖ山 亗 | 10 | 10 | Asian style letters are real Chinese characters |
| Crown | ♛ 𝙺𝚊𝚋𝚒𝚛 ♛ | 9 | 14 | Typewriter letters + Crown frame; see crown symbols |
| Duo | ᴋɪɴɢ×͜×ᴀʀᴊᴜɴ | 12 | 12 | Two words joined by a symbol instead of a space |
| Wings | 𓆩 𝓐𝔂𝓮𝓼𝓱𝓪 𓆪 | 10 | 18 | Egyptian hieroglyph brackets; newer phones only |
| Sniper | ︻デ═一 ꜱʜᴀᴅᴏᴡ | 11 | 11 | Popular for shooter games; the frame alone is 5 |
| Invisible gap | ℝ𝕒𝕙𝕦𝕝ㅤ࿐ | 7 | 11 | Uses the blank Hangul filler ㅤ as a space |
The Asian style row deserves a warning. 丂, 卄, 山 and the rest are real characters with real meanings: 山 means “mountain” and 尺 (the style’s R) is a traditional unit of length. Chinese and Japanese speakers read them as words, not letters. That is fine for a gaming tag, but worth knowing.
How length really works
Games and apps count characters in different ways, and none of the major games publish which method they use. Three common methods give three different answers for the same name:
| Name | Looks like | Characters | UTF-16 units | Bytes (UTF-8) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plain | Rahul | 5 | 5 | 5 |
| Small caps | ʀᴀʜᴜʟ | 5 | 5 | 12 |
| Bold cursive | 𝓡𝓪𝓱𝓾𝓵 | 5 | 10 | 20 |
| Black squares | 🆁🅰🅷🆄🅻 | 5 | 10 | 20 |
| Royal + small caps | ꧁ʀᴀʜᴜʟ꧂ | 7 | 7 | 18 |
| Royal + bold cursive | ꧁𝓡𝓪𝓱𝓾𝓵꧂ | 7 | 12 | 26 |
Many apps are written in languages that measure text in UTF-16 units, where bold, cursive, gothic, outline and black-square letters each count as two. Small caps, the Asian style and most frames count as one. So if a game rejects a name that looks short, swapping bold cursive for small caps is the quickest fix. Byte-based limits are stricter still.
Why bold letters cost two
The reason is how Unicode is stored. Bold, cursive and gothic letters are mathematical alphanumeric symbols, which sit outside the Basic Multilingual Plane (the first 65,536 code points), so UTF-16 needs two units for each one. Combining marks, such as the curve in ×͜×, are extra characters on top of the letter they decorate. The how fancy text works guide has the full explanation.
Hidden costs in symbols
What you see is not always what is counted, either. ×͜× looks like two characters but contains three, because the curve underneath is a separate combining mark. 🦋⃟ is a butterfly emoji plus an enclosing diamond, and some emoji with skin tones or combined figures are made of four or more characters joined together. If a name is rejected as too long, decorative symbols are usually the hidden cost. The character limits guide explains all three methods.
Game and app limits
These are the limits as we currently understand them. Where the platform has not published a rule, we say so, because many name sites repeat figures that nobody has confirmed. The sources for the Fortnite, Roblox, Discord and Facebook rules are listed on the character limits guide.
| Platform | Name length | Fancy characters | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free Fire | 12 characters (reported) | Widely used; Garena’s policy says “alphabets and numerics”. See the Free Fire name style page | Length is third-party only |
| BGMI / PUBG Mobile | 14 characters including symbols (reported) | Accepted, but the game’s own font can show boxes. See the BGMI name style page | Length is third-party only |
| Fortnite (Epic display name) | 3–16 characters | Officially letters, numbers, -, _, . and spaces; some Unicode reportedly passes |
Length is official |
| Roblox display name | 3–20 characters | Conflicting reports; Roblox publishes no character list and its help mentions only Japanese characters (in beta) | Length is official; characters unverified |
| Instagram name | 30 characters | Yes | Length observed on Instagram’s sign-up form; no help article states it |
| Discord display name | 1–32 characters | Yes, “can be almost anything” | Official |
| Facebook profile name | — | No: the name policy forbids symbols and mixed scripts | Official |
Styling your Instagram name
Your Instagram profile has two name fields, and only one can be styled. The @username is plain letters, numbers, periods and underscores. The name, shown in bold above your bio, accepts styled letters, frames and symbols.
The name is also what Instagram search looks at, and styled letters reportedly don’t match plain searches. If you want friends to find you by typing “Rahul”, a good compromise is a plain name with a little decoration, like Rahul ★彡, or a styled name with your plain name in the bio. For frames, the 30-character limit and what the name field accepts, see our Instagram name style page. The Instagram fonts page covers the bio, captions and the rest.
Name ideas by vibe
Searches for stylish names often add “boy”, “girl” or “attitude”. In practice the difference comes down to the frame and symbol more than the letters. Some combinations, each built in the generator:
| Vibe | Example | Built from |
|---|---|---|
| Soft | ୨୧ 𝓟𝓻𝓲𝔂𝓪 ୨୧ | Bold Cursive + Bows frame |
| Sweet | ♡ ᴀɴᴀɴʏᴀ ♡ | Small Caps + Hearts frame |
| Signature | 𝓢𝒾𝓂𝓇𝒶𝓃 | Cursive Name style (bold first letter) |
| Attitude | ×͜× 𝕬𝖗𝖏𝖚𝖓 | Bold Gothic + ×͜× typed before it |
| Clan | 亗 ʀᴏʜɪᴛ 亗 | Small Caps + 亗 on both sides |
| Pro player | ᴘʀᴏ×͜×ᴋᴀʙɪʀ | Small Caps, two words joined by ×͜× |
| Clean | 𝕂𝕒𝕓𝕚𝕣 | Double-Struck Outline, no frame |
For softer names, the cute fonts page has more frames and kaomoji. For anything not in the Frame menu, the text decorator lets you browse frames by mood and wrap your name in one tap.
Stylish names for boys
No frame or letter style belongs to boys or girls; these are conventions, and people mix them freely. What the searches for “stylish name for boys” usually want is a bolder, sharper look: heavier letters, angular or gaming-style marks, and no soft decoration. Each build below was generated in the tool, with the count taken as most apps count it (one per Unicode character) and the UTF-16 units that stricter apps use. The last two columns are for readers who use the name in a game: they compare the count with the reported limits of 12 for Free Fire and 14 for BGMI, which neither publisher has confirmed.
| Name | Build | Characters | UTF-16 units | Free Fire (12), if used in a game | BGMI (14), if used in a game |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 亗 ʀᴏʜᴀɴ 亗 | Small Caps + Kanji mark | 9 | 9 | Fits | Fits |
| ×͜× 𝕬𝖗𝖏𝖚𝖓 | Bold Gothic + ×͜× in front | 9 | 14 | Fits | Fits |
| ♛ 𝙺𝚊𝚋𝚒𝚛 ♛ | Typewriter Mono + Crown | 9 | 14 | Fits | Fits |
| ⚔ 𝗩𝗶𝗸𝗿𝗮𝗺 ⚔ | Bold Sans + Swords | 10 | 16 | Fits | Fits |
| ︻デ═一 ꜱʜᴀᴅᴏᴡ | Small Caps + Sniper | 11 | 11 | Fits | Fits |
| 【 𝐀𝐫𝐲𝐚𝐧 】 | Bold Serif + Lenticular | 9 | 14 | Fits | Fits |
| ★彡ℤ𝕒𝕪𝕟彡★ | Double-Struck Outline + Star wave | 8 | 11 | Fits | Fits |
| ϟ 𝕯𝖊𝖛 ϟ | Bold Gothic + Lightning | 7 | 10 | Fits | Fits |
Things to notice when you build your own:
- The frame is most of the length. In the Sniper build, ︻デ═一 and its space use 5 of the 11 characters, so a name of eight letters would not fit under 12.
- Short names can afford heavy letters. The whole Dev build takes 10 UTF-16 units in Bold Gothic, against 7 if the same name were set in Small Caps. That only matters if an app counts that way, but it is the first thing to try if a name is rejected.
- Small caps are not a full alphabet. Unicode has no small-cap form of x, so a name like Vex comes out as ᴠᴇx with one plain letter. Check the result before you commit to it.
- Try your own ends in the name builder. The Build a name button above the style list lets you choose the start and end separately (for example ×͜× at the start and nothing at the end) and shows the running count.
Stylish names for girls
The usual conventions for girls’ names are the opposite: curved script letters and soft marks such as hearts, flowers, bows and moons. Again, nothing is reserved; a gothic name with a heart frame is a perfectly valid mix. The builds below use the same method as the boys’ table.
| Name | Build | Characters | UTF-16 units | Free Fire (12), if used in a game | BGMI (14), if used in a game |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ୨୧ 𝓟𝓻𝓲𝔂𝓪 ୨୧ | Bold Cursive + Bows | 11 | 16 | Fits | Fits |
| ♡ ᴀɴᴀɴʏᴀ ♡ | Small Caps + Hearts | 10 | 10 | Fits | Fits |
| ✿ 𝓐𝓲𝓼𝓱𝓪 ✿ | Bold Cursive + Flowers | 9 | 14 | Fits | Fits |
| ☾ ᴢᴏʏᴀ ☽ | Small Caps + Moon | 8 | 8 | Fits | Fits |
| 𓆩 𝓢𝓲𝓶𝓻𝓪𝓷 𓆪 | Bold Cursive + Wings | 10 | 18 | Fits | Fits |
| 🦋⃟ 𝓡𝓲𝔂𝓪 | Bold Cursive + Butterfly | 7 | 12 | Fits | Fits |
| ❀ 𝓓𝓲𝔂𝓪 ❀ | Bold Cursive + Blossom | 8 | 12 | Fits | Fits |
| ⋆。°✩ 𝓜ℯℯ𝓇𝒶 ✩°。⋆ | Cursive Name + Twinkle | 15 | 18 | Too long | Too long |
The last row is there on purpose. The Twinkle frame alone is ten characters, so even a five-letter name goes past the reported BGMI limit of 14. If you love a long frame, use it on Instagram (30 characters for the name) and pick a one-character frame such as ♡ or ✿ for a game. ୨୧ looks like a bow but is really the Odia digits two and one, so screen readers may read it as numbers; the cute fonts page lists what the common soft symbols actually are, and the bow symbols page has real bow characters.
For more looks, the aesthetic fonts page matches letter styles and frames to moods such as celestial or cottagecore. Whatever you pick, keep your plain name somewhere on your profile so people can still search for it.
Attitude and cool names
Attitude names lean on hard-edged frames and marks: 亗, ×͜×, ϟ, swords and the sniper bar. They are a mood, not a rule, and the same letters work for anyone. Each build below was generated in the tool and counted the same way as the tables above. The last two columns apply only if you use the name in a game, against the reported limits of 12 and 14. The 亗 and 乂 marks are real Chinese characters, as the section on choosing symbols explains.
| Name | Build | Characters | UTF-16 units | Free Fire (12), if used in a game | BGMI (14), if used in a game |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 亗 ᴠɪʟʟᴀɪɴ 亗 | Small Caps + Kanji mark | 11 | 11 | Fits | Fits |
| ×͜× 𝕯𝖆𝖗𝖐 | Bold Gothic + ×͜× in front | 8 | 12 | Fits | Fits |
| ︻デ═一 ʀᴇᴀᴘᴇʀ | Small Caps + Sniper | 11 | 11 | Fits | Fits |
| ϟ 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗺 ϟ | Bold Sans + Lightning | 9 | 14 | Fits | Fits |
| ⚔ ʀᴇʙᴇʟ ⚔ | Small Caps + Swords | 9 | 9 | Fits | Fits |
| ★彡ᴊᴏᴋᴇʀ彡★ | Small Caps + Star wave | 9 | 9 | Fits | Fits |
| 乂 ᴅᴀɴɢᴇʀ 乂 | Small Caps + 乂 typed on both sides | 10 | 10 | Fits | Fits |
| ◆ 𝙿𝚛𝚘 ◆ | Typewriter Mono + Diamonds | 7 | 10 | Fits | Fits |
The spaces in these frames count as characters, so removing them is the first way to save room. The Hangul filler ㅤ can stand in for a space, but some apps strip it (see the invisible character tool).
Choosing symbols with care
Some symbols popular in stylish names have meanings beyond decoration:
- ☬ is the Khanda, a Sikh religious symbol. ✞ is a Christian cross and ॐ is Om. Use them only if they mean something to you.
- 々 and 亗 are real CJK characters, not symbols. 々 is the Japanese repetition mark (it tells the reader to repeat the kanji before it), and 亗 is a Chinese character. Japanese and Chinese readers will read them as text.
- Look-alike letters from other scripts can make a name hard to search, report or mention. Platforms treat names built to imitate someone else’s as impersonation.
- Zalgo and glitch styles stack many combining marks on every letter, so a short name can cost dozens of characters, and games and apps often strip, clip or reject them. Leave them out of names you need to keep.
- The blank character ㅤ (U+3164, Hangul filler; see the invisible character tool) is popular for spaces in game names, but some games and apps strip or block it.
Build yours in four steps, then copy and paste it
- Type your name in the box. The Royal ꧁ ꧂ frame is already applied to every style so you can compare them at a glance.
- Pick a letter style. Bold cursive and bold gothic look the most dramatic; small caps and typewriter are the most compact and reliable.
- Swap the frame if you like: ★彡 for a cool look, ♛ for royalty, ︻デ═一 for shooters, or No frame if you need every character.
- Check the fit. Open Compatibility & details under a result to see its character count, then try it in the game or app before committing to a rename.
Whatever you build, the stylish name generator only designs the name: the game or app decides what it accepts, so test the result there and keep your plain name somewhere friends can search for it.
