This League of Legends name style generator turns the game name in your Riot ID into small caps, bold sans and other Unicode styles you can copy, with the character count beside each. It is for players who want a styled name and need to know what Riot’s field may reject.

How a Riot ID works

League of Legends and VALORANT share the Riot ID system. Your ID has two parts: a game name, which other players see, and a tagline after the # that keeps IDs unique. Riot’s developer support sets game names at 3 to 16 characters (no #) and taglines at 3 to 5 alphanumeric characters, and says any Unicode letter is supported in both. Riot’s player FAQ is stricter in wording and calls them alphanumeric. Read together, letters from any script should be accepted; symbols are not mentioned at all, and Riot does not say whether its filter accepts styled look-alike letters.

The practical result is that styled names are risky. A style that looks good in a preview may be refused by the Riot ID field, and there may be a limited number of chances to change the name. Treat the generator as a way to preview ideas and to build a styled version for other platforms, rather than as a guarantee that Riot will accept the result.

Part Rule Status

Which styles are most likely to pass

Plain letter shapes pass most easily. Styles that substitute Unicode lookalikes may be refused, because they are different characters. In rough order of likelihood:

  1. Plain letters with capitals and numbers, such as “NightFall07”.
  2. Small caps, which use Latin letters from the phonetic block; some may be accepted, others not.
  3. Bold sans and monospace, which are mathematical letters and are often filtered.
  4. Gothic, glitch and symbols, rarely accepted.

We have not tested each against Riot’s field, so you should try. If your first choice is refused, drop to the next. A good practice is to prepare a plain version and a styled version, and use the styled one only where it is accepted.

Make the name memorable instead

Because decoration is limited, a strong plain name does more than a clever style. A few principles:

  • Readable on a champion select screen. Short and clear beats long and clever.
  • Easy to say. If teammates cannot pronounce it, they cannot call you.
  • Distinct. Avoid names that look like another player’s with a letter swapped.
  • Not too tied to a trend. Memes age quickly.

Use capitals inside a name, such as “NightFall”, to add visual structure without any Unicode.

Where to use the styled version

Your styled name belongs on platforms that accept Unicode:

  • Discord display name: see Discord fonts.
  • Twitch and YouTube channel names: see Twitch fonts.
  • Social bios: put the plain Riot ID in the bio, so friends can add you.

Write your full Name#TAG in plain text near the styled one, since friends will type it into the client.

Length and the tagline

The name limit is a count of characters, so a name of 16 characters in plain letters is the maximum, and symbols count as characters too. The tagline is separate. Choose a tagline that is easy to remember, since people will type it. Most players keep the default or choose something short, such as initials or a number with personal meaning.

Fair play and respect

Riot can remove or change names it considers offensive, misleading or impersonating others. Do not style a name to hide offensive words, to impersonate staff or to evade a ban. Doing so may result in action on your account and is unfair to others.

Accessibility

Players who use screen readers may not be able to read styled names, and styled letters read badly in text-to-speech. Plain names are more welcoming, particularly in a team game where communication matters. See the guide on fancy text accessibility.

How to use the League of Legends name style generator

  1. Type your intended name.
  2. Browse the styles and note which look good.
  3. Copy one and try it in the Riot ID field.
  4. If it is rejected, choose a plainer style.
  5. Use the styled version on your socials.

Your text never leaves your browser. For the same approach on Riot’s other game, see Valorant name style.

Examples of plain names with built-in style

You can create a distinctive Riot name without any special characters. Mixed capitals (“NightFall”), a short numeric suffix (“Vesper44”), repeated letters (“Zzephyr”) and word pairs (“QuietStorm”) all read well and pass the field. Avoid look-alike swaps with zero and the letter O, or capital I and lowercase l, since these confuse friends who need to type your ID. A clean name also looks better on stream overlays, in post-game screens and in clips, where small decorative marks are usually lost at video compression.

Testing a name safely

Before you commit, type the name into the Riot ID field without saving to see whether the client flags it. If the client tells you the name is unavailable, that can mean it is taken, not that the characters are wrong, so try a small variation. Keep a short list of backups, and note that each rename may be restricted, so do not burn a change on an untested style. If you play both League and VALORANT, remember that the Riot ID is shared, so one change affects both games.

Whatever you pick, write it down exactly, including the tagline, and share that text with friends so they can add you without guessing.

Use the league of legends name style generator to preview ideas, then keep the exact plain Name#TAG handy for friends, because the styled version only belongs where Unicode is accepted.

Frequently asked questions

Basics

What is a Riot ID and a tagline?
A Riot ID is your game name plus a tagline, for example Name#TAG. The tagline makes the ID unique so many players can share a name. Riot sets the name at 3 to 16 characters and the tagline at 3 to 5. The tagline is plain and is not for styling.
What is a League of Legends name style?
A League of Legends name style is a Unicode letter style you try in the game name part of your Riot ID. The generator only makes text. Riot does not say whether its filter accepts styled look-alike letters, so test the name in the field.
How do I write a stylish League of Legends name with this tool?
Type your name above, pick a style and tap Copy, then paste it into the Riot ID game name field. Keep it 3 to 16 characters with no #. If the field rejects it, use a plainer style or plain letters and keep the styled version for socials.

Where it works

Can I use special characters in my League of Legends name?
Partly. Riot's developer article says any Unicode letter is supported, so accented and non-Latin letters should pass, but its player FAQ describes names as alphanumeric. Symbols, glitch marks and stacked accents are not letters and are expected to be rejected. Riot does not say whether styled look-alike letters such as gothic pass its filter, so test in the Riot ID field and keep a plain fallback.
Can I use League of Legends name styles in Discord or Twitch?
Yes. These platforms generally accept Unicode in display names, so you can use a styled version of your Riot name there. Keep the plain version in your bio or panel so teammates can find and add you in game by typing the exact name.
Does my League of Legends name style carry over to VALORANT?
Yes. The Riot ID is shared between League of Legends and VALORANT, so one name change affects both games. A styled name that Riot accepts shows in both, and one it rejects fails in both. Test the style once, then plan around the 90-day cooldown rather than changing it repeatedly.

How it works

Why was my styled Riot ID rejected?
The Riot ID field only allows certain characters, and decorative Unicode usually is not on the list. The rejection message depends on the client. Try a plainer style such as small caps, or remove symbols, and check the length. If you still cannot save it, use plain letters.
How long can a League of Legends name be?
The game name is 3 to 16 characters with no #, and the tagline after the # is 3 to 5 alphanumeric characters, according to Riot. Symbols and frames count as characters, so a decorated name leaves fewer letters. The tagline is not for styling.
Do letters from other scripts work in a Riot ID?
They should. Riot's developer article says any Unicode letter is supported, while its player FAQ says alphanumeric. Decorative symbols are not letters. Riot does not say whether styled look-alike letters pass, so test them in the field before you rely on them.

Tips & limits

How often can I change my League of Legends name?
Riot's Riot ID FAQ says changes are free on a 90-day cooldown. That can change, so check the account settings before committing. If you want a styled version, it is safer to use it on your social accounts and keep the game name plain.
Will a styled name be searchable by friends?
Probably not reliably. Friends search by typing your exact Riot ID, and styled letters do not match plain ones. If you want to be found, use a plain name in game. Share the exact Name#TAG with friends in text rather than relying on search.
Why keep a plain version of my Riot ID next to a styled one?
Friends add you by typing your exact Name#TAG, and styled letters do not match plain ones. Write your plain Riot ID in your bio or panel, then use the styled version for display on Discord, Twitch or YouTube. This also helps anyone who hears your name in voice chat.
