Key facts

  • A decorated name is a left ornament, a styled name and a right ornament; the text decorator offers 28 frames to choose from.
  • ꧁ and ꧂ are Javanese punctuation marks (U+A9C1 and U+A9C2), and the Royal frame adds just two characters to a name.
  • Frames add characters to a name: two for Royal or Ornate, four for most spaced pairs such as hearts, and 28 for Bars, so check the field limit first.
  • Usernames on Instagram, TikTok and Discord reject frames and styled letters, so decorate the display name, nickname or bio instead.
  • Styled letters such as bold cursive sit outside the Basic Multilingual Plane, so ꧁𝓛𝓾𝓷𝓪꧂ is 6 code points but 10 UTF-16 units.
  • Steam profile names allow 32 UTF-16 units and 128 UTF-8 bytes (Steamworks documentation), which is about 16 bold or cursive letters.

This text decorator wraps your name or nickname in decorative frames such as ꧁ ꧂, ★彡 彡★ and ୨୧, in the letter style you choose. Type a name, filter frames by cute, cool, aesthetic or gaming, and tap any row to copy the decorated result for a bio, game name or caption.

Frames, explained

A decorated name has three parts: left ornament + styled name + right ornament. The decorator handles all three. You type the name, choose how the letters look, and every frame in the list updates.

Frame Characters Where they come from
Royal ꧁ ꧂ Javanese script punctuation (U+A9C1, U+A9C2)
Ornate ༺ ༻ Tibetan marks (U+0F3A, U+0F3B)
Star wave ★彡 彡★ Black star + 彡 (U+5F61), the CJK “bristle” radical, whose three strokes read as a trail
Wings 𓆩 𓆪 Egyptian hieroglyphs L006 and L006A (U+131A9, U+131AA)
Lenticular 【 】 CJK brackets used in Chinese and Japanese headings
Bows ୨୧ The Odia (Oriya) digits two and one (U+0B68, U+0B67), which together look like a bow
Sniper ︻デ═一 A rifle drawn with a vertical bracket, katakana デ, a box-drawing line and the CJK character 一

Knowing the origin explains the behaviour. Symbols from big, widely supported blocks (stars, hearts, CJK brackets) look consistent everywhere, while rarer scripts such as hieroglyphs depend on the device’s fonts.

Choosing a frame for the job

  • Gaming names: go short. Every ornament character counts toward the name limit, and many games only accept basic characters. Try Royal, Crown or Lightning.
  • Instagram and TikTok names: TikTok allows 30 characters in a nickname; Instagram’s sign-up form caps the name at 30. A two-character frame plus a styled name fits comfortably.
  • Bios and captions: there’s room for longer, softer frames like Sparkle, Twinkle or Music.
  • Discord: display names allow 32 characters, so frames fit, but long ones crowd the member list.

Every frame, grouped by mood

The mood filters above the results use these groups. A frame can sit in more than one mood, which is why Sparkle shows up under both Cute and Aesthetic.

Mood Frames
Cute Sparkle, Twinkle, Hearts, Flowers, Blossom, Bows, Music, Dots, Stars, Happy face
Cool Star wave, Wings, Crown, Swords, Lightning, Lenticular, Bars, Zigzag, Arrows, Diamonds, Gothic cross
Aesthetic Ornate, Sparkle, Twinkle, Flowers, Blossom, Bows, Wings, Corners, Moon
Gaming Royal, Royal wings, Star wave, Crown, Swords, Sniper, Lightning
Love Hearts, Heart arrows, Arrows
Classic Royal, Royal wings, Ornate, Heart arrows, Lenticular, Corners, Music, Stars, Diamonds, Gothic cross

The full list, shortest first, with the exact characters each frame puts on the left and right of your name. The last column counts every character the frame adds, spaces included.

Sparkle ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* *:・゚✧*:・゚✧ 23
Bars ▁ ▂ ▄ ▅ ▆ ▇ █ █ ▇ ▆ ▅ ▄ ▂ ▁ 28

Most frames put a space between the ornament and the name. Royal, Royal wings, Ornate and Star wave don’t, which is why they hug the name more tightly. Sniper only has a left side: the rifle points at nothing, which is the usual way it is written.

How to use the text decorator

  1. Type the name as you want it read. Capitalise it the way you would on a form. Black Squares, one of the menu choices, only exists in capitals, so it turns your name into all caps.
  2. Pick a letter style. Bold Cursive and Bold Gothic are heavy and read well at small sizes. Small Caps and Bubble Letters are lighter. Plain letters are a good choice when the frame itself is the statement.
  3. Choose a mood filter, then a frame. Filter first and scan the list; every row shows your actual name inside that frame.
  4. Tap to copy and paste it into the field. If the field rejects it or cuts it short, go back and pick a shorter frame.

Four results from the real data, so you can see how style and frame interact:

Name Letter style Frame Result Code points
Luna Bold Cursive Royal ꧁𝓛𝓾𝓷𝓪꧂ 6
Nova Small Caps Star wave ★彡ɴᴏᴠᴀ彡★ 8
Raven Bold Gothic Crown ♛ 𝕽𝖆𝖛𝖊𝖓 ♛ 9
Mika Bubble Letters Twinkle ⋆。°✩ Ⓜⓘⓚⓐ ✩°。⋆ 14

Luna with Royal is the compact option: a four-letter name becomes six characters. Mika with Twinkle is the other extreme. The name is only four characters, yet the result is 14, so it needs a field that allows at least that much. Raven with Crown shows a quieter alternative to the double-bracket look: one symbol each side with a space.

Pairing styles with frames

Style and frame compete for attention, so pair a loud one with a quiet one. These pairings tend to read well, based on how heavy each part looks:

  • Bold Cursive or Bold Gothic with a one-symbol frame (Crown, Lightning, Diamonds). The letters carry the weight and the symbol only punctuates.
  • Small Caps or Plain letters with a long frame (Twinkle, Music, Zigzag). Light letters leave room for the ornament to be the feature.
  • Bubble Letters with Hearts, Flowers or Stars. The round letters and round symbols match, which suits bios and cute nicknames.
  • Monospace with Bars or Zigzag. The even spacing of typewriter letters sits well beside block characters.

Symbols you can add inside a name

You aren’t limited to the frame list. Single symbols can sit between words or replace a letter’s dot or spacing. These are the ones we use most, with their official Unicode names:

Symbol Code point Unicode name
★ U+2605 BLACK STAR
✦ U+2726 BLACK FOUR POINTED STAR
♡ U+2661 WHITE HEART SUIT
✿ U+273F BLACK FLORETTE
⚡ U+26A1 HIGH VOLTAGE SIGN
ϟ U+03DF GREEK SMALL LETTER KOPPA

⚡ is the one to be careful with: many phones draw it as a colour emoji rather than a flat symbol, so it can look different from the monochrome ★ and ♡ next to it. ϟ is the flat, text-style lightning bolt, and it is technically a Greek letter, so a field that filters out “symbols” may treat it differently. We haven’t tested that on specific platforms. For a name with a symbol in the middle, such as Mia ✦ Rose, type the symbol into the text box yourself, then choose a frame.

Length limits by platform

Every character in the frame counts against the limit, and some platforms may count styled letters as two. Mathematical letters such as 𝓛 sit outside the Basic Multilingual Plane, so JavaScript counts each as two UTF-16 units. ꧁𝓛𝓾𝓷𝓪꧂ is 6 code points but 10 UTF-16 units. Most platforms don’t document which method they use, so leave a margin. Steam is an exception: its 32-character name limit counts UTF-16 units, so ꧁𝓛𝓾𝓷𝓪꧂ uses 10 of the 32.

Where Limit Confidence
Discord display name 1 to 32 characters, special characters and non-Latin allowed Official help center
Discord username 2 to 32, lowercase letters, numbers, underscore and period only Official help center
TikTok nickname Up to 30 characters, change once every 7 days Official help center
TikTok @username 2 to 24, letters, numbers, underscores and periods, not ending in a period Official help center
Instagram name 30 Observed on Instagram’s sign-up form; no help article states it
Instagram @username 30, letters, numbers, periods, underscores Characters official; length observed on the sign-up form
Free Fire in-game name 12 reported after a game update Length third-party only. Garena’s policy says letters and numbers, and its support advises avoiding special characters because not all display on every device
BGMI / PUBG Mobile 14 including symbols, reported Third-party only
Steam profile name 32 UTF-16 units and 128 UTF-8 bytes, so about 16 bold or cursive letters Official (Steamworks documentation)

Treat the third-party rows as a starting point, not a rule. Games change them without notice, and the name field itself will tell you the truth faster than any list.

Mistakes that ruin a decorated name

  • Choosing a frame longer than the name. Music adds 20 characters and Bars adds 28. In a 12 or 14 character game field there is nothing left for the name.
  • Rare symbols that turn into boxes. The hieroglyph frame (𓆩 𓆪) and the Yi-script letter style on our main generator depend on a font that many phones and game clients don’t have. If your audience is on older Android phones or inside a game with its own bundled font, a box appears where the ornament should be. The why fancy text shows boxes guide explains how to check support.
  • Decorating the @username. Username fields accept a short list of ASCII characters. The paste either fails or the platform quietly strips the symbols.
  • Stacking a frame on a heavy style. Bold Gothic plus a busy frame like Sparkle is hard to read at thumbnail size. Let one of the two be quiet.
  • Forgetting the plain version. See the next section.

Keep the name findable

A decorated, styled name is hard for others to search for and for screen readers to read. If people need to find you, keep a plain version of your name somewhere visible, such as your username or the first line of your bio. The unstyle tool converts any decorated name back to plain letters.

Accessibility matters here beyond search. Screen readers may read a frame symbol by its Unicode name, so ꧁ can be announced as “Javanese left rerenggan”, and styled letters are often read one at a time. Decorative frames are safest in places where sighted visitors are the main audience, and the fancy text accessibility guide goes through what to avoid. Behaviour differs between screen readers and versions, so treat this as a risk, not a fixed rule.

For complete name ideas built from frames, styles and symbols together, see the stylish name generator.

The result is a name that looks distinct in a bio or lobby while the plain version stays findable, which is what a good text decorator should leave you with.

Frequently asked questions

Basics

What is the ꧁ ꧂ symbol called?
꧁ and ꧂ are Javanese punctuation marks: U+A9C1 JAVANESE LEFT RERENGGAN and U+A9C2 JAVANESE RIGHT RERENGGAN. In Javanese script they bracket titles and headings, and the pair is meant to be read as an opening and closing mark. Online they became the most popular "royal" frame for gaming names and nicknames.
Can I combine a frame with a font style?
Yes. Choose a letter style from the menu next to the text box. Every frame then shows your name in that style. The main lettering generator also has a Frame menu that applies one frame to all 200+ styles at once.
How do I decorate my name with symbols?
Type your name, choose a letter style from the menu, pick a mood filter and tap any frame to copy the result. Every row shows your actual name inside that frame. If a field rejects it or cuts it short, go back and pick a shorter frame.
What mood filters does the text decorator have?
Cute, Cool, Aesthetic, Gaming, Love and Classic. A frame can sit in more than one mood, which is why Sparkle shows up under both Cute and Aesthetic. Filter first, then scan the list for the frame that fits where you will paste it.

Where it works

Will decorated names work in games?
It depends on the game. Many game name fields only accept letters, numbers and a few symbols, or limit names to 12–16 characters, and frames use several characters each. Short frames such as ꧁ ꧂ or 『 』 have the best chance. Our Free Fire and BGMI pages cover those games.
Which frames fit a 30-character TikTok or Instagram name?
Any short one. TikTok allows 30 characters in a nickname and Instagram's sign-up form caps the name at 30. A two-character frame such as Royal plus a styled name fits comfortably, while Music adds 20 characters and Bars adds 28.
How many characters can a Steam name use with a frame?
Steam profile names allow 32 UTF-16 units and 128 UTF-8 bytes, according to Steamworks documentation. Styled letters count double in UTF-16, so ꧁𝓛𝓾𝓷𝓪꧂ uses 10 of the 32. Expect about 16 bold or cursive letters in total.
Which frames work best in game names?
Short ones such as Royal, Crown or Lightning. Every ornament character counts toward the limit and many games accept only basic characters. The limits we found for Free Fire and BGMI are third-party reports, so the name field itself is the real test.

How it works

Why does the frame look different on my friend's phone?
Frames borrow symbols from many writing systems, such as Javanese, Japanese and Egyptian hieroglyphs (𓆩 𓆪). Each phone draws them with whatever font it has, so shapes and sizes vary, and older devices may show empty boxes. The simpler star, heart and bracket frames look the most consistent.
How many characters does a decorated name use?
The frame adds its own characters on top of your name: two for ꧁ ꧂, four for most spaced pairs such as ♡ Name ♡, and 20 or more for long ones like Music or Bars. Styled letters can also count double on platforms that measure in UTF-16 units. Check the limit for the field you are filling in before you copy.
Why do styled letters count as two characters?
Mathematical letters such as 𝓛 sit outside the Basic Multilingual Plane, so JavaScript and some platforms count each as two UTF-16 units. ꧁𝓛𝓾𝓷𝓪꧂ is 6 code points but 10 units. Most platforms do not say which method they use, so leave a margin.
Where do the frame symbols come from?
From many scripts. Royal is Javanese punctuation, Ornate is Tibetan, Bows are Odia digits, Wings are Egyptian hieroglyphs and Lenticular is CJK brackets. Symbols from big blocks such as stars and hearts look consistent, while rarer scripts depend on the device's fonts.

Tips & limits

Can I put a frame around my @username?
Usually not. Instagram, TikTok and Discord usernames are restricted to letters, numbers and a few punctuation marks, so frames and styled letters are rejected. Decoration belongs in the display name, nickname or bio instead. Keep the plain @username as the part people type to find you.
Is the lightning bolt symbol safe to use?
Use ϟ rather than ⚡. Many phones draw ⚡ as a colour emoji, so it looks different from the flat ★ and ♡ beside it. ϟ is a flat text-style bolt but technically a Greek letter, so a field that filters symbols might treat it differently.
Do screen readers read decorated names?
They may read a frame symbol by its Unicode name, so ꧁ can be announced as Javanese left rerenggan, and styled letters are often read one at a time. Behaviour differs between screen readers, so treat it as a risk and keep a plain version of your name findable.
