Each Copy button below copies one character (maximum 500).

Each copy is 1 character.

  • Hangul Filler U+3164

A letter-type blank from the Korean script. Most people try it first for blank names, because many name fields treat it as a letter, not whitespace.

    Width: wide

  • Halfwidth Hangul Filler U+FFA0

The half-width form of the Korean filler. Narrower than U+3164, and worth trying where U+3164 is too wide or is rejected.

    Width: very narrow

  • Hangul Choseong Filler U+115F

A zero-to-narrow blank used to build Korean syllables. Sometimes accepted where U+3164 is not.

    Width: very narrow

  • Hangul Jungseong Filler U+1160

The middle-vowel partner of U+115F, also a zero-to-narrow blank. Often used together with it.

    Width: very narrow

  • Braille Pattern Blank U+2800

The braille cell with no dots raised. Drawn as a blank cell, and usually survives trimming because it is not whitespace.

    Width: normal width

  • Zero Width Space U+200B

Marks a place where a line may break, with no visible width. Often trimmed or rejected by forms.

    Width: zero width

  • No-Break Space U+00A0

A normal-width space that will not wrap onto a new line. The one you get from Alt+0160.

    Width: normal width

  • Em Space U+2003

A space as wide as the letter M. Useful for indenting and spacing without extra markup.

    Width: wide

  • Ideographic Space U+3000

The full-width space used with Chinese, Japanese and Korean text. Roughly as wide as an em space, and a real space, so fields that trim whitespace may remove it.

    Width: wide

  • Figure Space U+2007

A space as wide as a digit, so columns of numbers stay aligned.

    Width: normal width

  • Word Joiner U+2060

An invisible character that forbids a line break at that point. Takes no space.

    Width: zero width

  • Zero Width No-Break Space (BOM) U+FEFF

Originally the byte order mark at the start of a file. Zero width, and often stripped silently.

    Width: zero width

Key facts

  • Try U+3164 HANGUL FILLER first for a blank name, then U+2800 BRAILLE PATTERN BLANK, then U+115F if a field rejects both.
  • A zero-width space (U+200B) is the least reliable blank for names, because many forms treat it as whitespace and trim it.
  • Hangul filler and Braille blank are not classed as whitespace, so they survive more trimming checks than a plain space, but a field can still reject them.
  • No source we found confirms that any specific app accepts a blank name, so test the character in the exact field you need.
  • Usernames on Instagram, TikTok and Discord allow only a strict set of letters, numbers and punctuation, so blank characters are rejected there; display names are more flexible.
  • Each blank in the list is a single code point, but some platforms, such as X, count characters differently.

An invisible character is a real Unicode character that shows as empty space, such as U+3164 Hangul Filler or U+2800 Braille Pattern Blank. U+3164 is the most popular choice for blank names, and U+2800 is a common second. Pick one from the list, copy it and paste it into a name, bio or message where a plain space is trimmed. The page explains what each one does and where it tends to work.

What is U+3164?

U+3164 is HANGUL FILLER, a Korean letter-type character that is drawn as a wide blank. It is not classed as whitespace, so it passes more trimming checks than a plain space, though a field can still reject it.

What is an invisible character?

An invisible character is a Unicode character that displays as empty space (or nothing at all) but is not the ordinary space you get from the space bar. Computers store text as a long list of code points, and some of those code points are defined as blank on purpose, such as a space as wide as the letter M or a hidden marker that tells software where it may break a line. The tool above lists the common ones with a copy button for each.

Because the character is real, it can pass a filter that only checks for an ordinary space. That is why people reach for it when an app says “name cannot be empty” or strips a plain space. If you searched for a blank space to copy and paste, an empty character or an invisible name, this is the same thing: a real character that looks empty.

How to copy a blank character

  1. Pick the app under Where will you use it, if you want its field, limit and what we know, then choose how many characters to copy.
  2. Choose a character from the list. Start with Hangul Filler (U+3164), then try Braille Pattern Blank (U+2800).
  3. Press Copy, paste it into the field, and use the test box on the page to see whether it was kept or trimmed.

The characters

Each name and code point below is checked against the Unicode Character Database.

Character Code point Looks like Typical use
HANGUL FILLER U+3164 Wide blank Blank display names, empty messages. The most popular choice.
HALFWIDTH HANGUL FILLER U+FFA0 Narrow blank A half-width version of U+3164, for when that one is too wide or is rejected.
HANGUL CHOSEONG FILLER U+115F Narrow or zero-width blank Alternative when U+3164 is rejected; behaves like a letter in some renderers.
HANGUL JUNGSEONG FILLER U+1160 Narrow or zero-width blank The vowel partner of U+115F, often used together with it.
BRAILLE PATTERN BLANK U+2800 Blank cell about the width of a letter Blank names, empty lines, spacing. Not classed as whitespace.
ZERO WIDTH SPACE U+200B No width at all Invisible word-break hints; hiding text in a string. Often trimmed.
NO-BREAK SPACE U+00A0 A normal-width space Keeps two words on the same line; often survives where a plain space is stripped.
EM SPACE U+2003 Space as wide as the font size Wide spacing in bios and captions.
IDEOGRAPHIC SPACE U+3000 Full-width space The wide space used with Chinese, Japanese and Korean text. A real space, so it can be trimmed.
FIGURE SPACE U+2007 A space as wide as a digit Aligning numbers; a fixed-width blank.

The first five characters in the list above are the ones people mean when they say “blank text”. The rest are real spaces of different widths, or zero-width marks, and are better for spacing than for hiding a name. The tool also has a word joiner (U+2060) and a zero-width no-break space (U+FEFF); both are normally stripped.

Blank space copy and paste: which one to use

You want Use Why
A blank name U+3164 Hangul Filler Wide blank, not classed as whitespace. Fall back to U+2800, then U+115F.
A blank message U+3164 Hangul Filler Shows as empty; send one to yourself first, since some apps refuse a message that holds only a blank. U+2800 is the alternative.
Spacing in a bio U+2800 Braille Pattern Blank or U+2003 Em Space Indents a line or makes a gap between paragraphs where plain spaces are collapsed.

What each one is for

Blank names in games and chats. If a game or messenger rejects an empty name, a Hangul filler or Braille blank is the usual workaround. Whether it works depends on the app and the field. Usernames and handles generally demand a strict set of letters and numbers, whereas display names and nicknames are more flexible.

Spacing in a bio. Many apps collapse repeated plain spaces and strip leading ones. An em space or a Braille blank at the start of a line indents it, and a line containing only a blank character produces a visible gap between paragraphs. This is how people get a centred or separated look in Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp bios.

Layout and alignment. Figure spaces keep columns of numbers aligned in plain text. No-break spaces stop a number and its unit (“10 kg”) from splitting across lines.

Hidden markers. A zero-width space is used by developers to allow a break inside a long word or URL. It is also how some people hide text, which is one reason apps strip it.

Which platforms filter them

Our platform research (see WhatsApp fonts, Discord fonts and Roblox fonts) records the documented length and character limits for those apps, but it does not establish exactly which invisible characters each one allows. Blank-character support is not usually published, and it changes as apps update their filters. What is generally true:

  • Fields that trim whitespace will remove a plain space and often a zero-width space, but leave the Hangul filler and Braille blank.
  • Fields that accept only a specific set of letters and numbers, as with most usernames, will reject all of these.
  • A message that contains only a blank character may send in some apps and be refused in others.
  • Updates can change the result: a trick that worked last year may stop working.

So paste one into the exact field you care about, and if it fails, move to the next on the list.

Pick the app under “Where will you use it?” in the tool above and it shows the field, the limit and what we know. In every case below, no source we found says a blank character is accepted. “Untested” means exactly that: allowed in principle, not confirmed by us or by the platform. Limits marked “third-party” come from guides we could not confirm.

Free Fire blank name

Garena’s abuse policy says an in-game name can be formed using letters and numbers, and that names breaking the rules may be reset. It does not mention the Hangul Filler (U+3164), although players use it widely to put a gap in a name. The 12-character limit is a third-party claim. Paste one U+3164 in the rename preview and confirm only if it looks right. Status: untested. Details on Free Fire name style.

PUBG Mobile and BGMI empty name

Third-party guides give a 14-character limit (sourced on BGMI and PUBG name style). The game draws names with its own bundled font, so a character your phone shows fine can still appear as an empty box in the game. Try U+3164 first and look at the preview; if you see a box, try another character from the list. Status: untested. Details on BGMI and PUBG name style.

WhatsApp blank name or message

WhatsApp’s help pages cover message formatting, not blank characters. Pasted Unicode shows in profile names and messages, but nothing documents a message that contains only a blank character, so send one to yourself before you rely on it. Status: untested. More on WhatsApp fonts.

TikTok invisible name

The nickname takes up to 30 characters and accepts styled letters and emoji (TikTok Support), so that is the field to try. The username allows only letters, numbers, underscores and periods, so a blank character will not be accepted there. Status: nickname untested, username not allowed. More on TikTok fonts.

Instagram blank name

The Name field stops at 30 characters on the sign-up form and accepts styled letters and emoji. Blank characters are not documented, and we have not tested the Edit profile screen. The username allows only letters, numbers, periods and underscores, so it is not an option. More on Instagram name style.

Discord blank name

Discord says a display name can be almost anything, 1 to 32 characters, but it does not say whether a blank one is accepted. Usernames take only lowercase a to z, 0 to 9, underscore and period, so they rule it out. Servers and moderation bots may also ask for a readable name. More on Discord fonts.

Among Us empty name

A 10-character limit is commonly reported, but we could not load Innersloth’s support pages, so the limit and Unicode support are unconfirmed. The game uses its own typeface, so test in the name box. More on Among Us name style.

Using blank characters responsibly

Blank characters are harmless in themselves, but they can be abused. Please avoid:

  • Setting a blank name in a group to impersonate or confuse others, or to avoid being identified after you have broken the rules.
  • Hiding text in someone else’s messages, posts or documents.
  • Using blank characters to evade spam filters or content moderation. Platforms can and do act on this.
  • Putting them in passwords or usernames you might forget, since you cannot see what you typed.

Some screen readers announce these characters as “blank” or “Hangul filler”, or skip them silently, so a blank name can be confusing for people using assistive technology. Do not put essential information after a run of blank characters.

Tips

  • Copy only one blank character at a time and test it. If it is rejected, nothing is lost.
  • Characters counted by length: each of these is one character (U+3164 is a single code point), but some platforms count differently, as with X.
  • To clean up fancy letters you pasted, the unstyle text tool converts them back to plain text.
  • For decorative alternatives to a blank, see symbols and decorations.

Troubleshooting a blank that will not paste

If the app seems to ignore your blank character, work through these steps in order. First, check that you actually copied it: a single invisible character is easy to lose, so paste it into another field and see whether the cursor moves. Second, try a different character from the table, starting with U+3164, then U+2800, then U+115F. Third, try it in the middle of a name rather than at the start or end, since many fields trim the edges only. Fourth, on a phone, long-press the paste location and choose Paste rather than using a keyboard shortcut, since some keyboards strip unusual characters. If none of that works, the field is probably restricting characters, and there is no workaround worth trying.

Frequently asked questions

Basics

Which invisible character works best?
There is no single winner. Start with U+3164 HANGUL FILLER: it is a letter-type character that many name fields accept and that shows as empty. Then try U+2800 BRAILLE PATTERN BLANK. A zero-width space (U+200B) is the least reliable for names because many forms treat it as whitespace and trim it. Try them in order and see which your app accepts.
Is an invisible character really empty?
It takes up zero or little visible space but is still a real character. It counts toward character limits, it can be selected, and it moves the cursor. The Hangul filler and Braille blank are normally drawn as a blank cell of some width, while the zero-width space has no width at all.
How do I copy an invisible character?
Pick an app under Where will you use it if you want its field and limit, choose how many characters to copy, then press Copy on a character from the list. Start with Hangul Filler (U+3164). Paste it into the field and use the test box on the page to see whether it was kept.
What is U+3164?
U+3164 is HANGUL FILLER, a Korean letter-type character that is drawn as a wide blank. It is a popular choice for blank names because it is not classed as whitespace, so it passes more trimming checks than a plain space. A field can still reject it.

Where it works

Do invisible characters work in WhatsApp, Instagram and Discord?
Often for messages and display names, less often for usernames, but we cannot guarantee it. We have not verified current rules for each app, so test it in the field you want to use. Our platform pages list the limits we have sources for.
Can I use an invisible character for a Free Fire blank name?
Untested. Garena's abuse policy says names can use letters and numbers and does not mention the Hangul Filler, though players use it widely. The 12-character limit is only a third-party claim (see Free Fire name style). Paste one U+3164 in the rename preview and confirm only if it looks right.
Does an invisible name work on TikTok?
The nickname takes up to 30 characters and accepts styled letters and emoji, so it is the field to try; we have not confirmed a blank one works. The username allows only letters, numbers, underscores and periods, so a blank character will not be accepted there.
Can I have a blank display name on Discord?
Discord says a display name can be almost anything, 1 to 32 characters, but it does not say whether a blank one is accepted. Usernames take only lowercase a to z, 0 to 9, underscore and period, so they rule it out. Servers may also ask for a readable name.

How it works

Why does the blank character work on one app and not another?
Every app decides what to do with text. Some trim spaces at the start and end, some strip control or format characters, and some only accept an allow-list of characters. The Hangul filler and Braille blank survive more checks because they are not classed as whitespace, but a filter can still reject them. These rules change without notice, so treat any list of working platforms as a guide only.
Why is my blank text showing as a box or question mark?
Some older devices or fonts do not have a glyph for the character, so the app shows a box or question mark instead. Try a different one from the list. Braille blank and no-break space are drawn by most fonts, while a zero-width character is more likely to fail. If a platform trims spaces from names, a Braille blank usually survives.
What is the difference between the Hangul filler and the Braille blank?
Both are drawn as empty space and neither is classed as whitespace. Hangul Filler U+3164 is a wide blank, and Braille Pattern Blank U+2800 is a blank cell about the width of a letter. Try U+3164 first, then U+2800, then U+115F if a field rejects them.
Why is a zero-width space often trimmed?
It is not drawn at all and many forms treat it as whitespace, so they strip it from the start and end. A zero-width space (U+200B) is the least reliable blank for names. It suits invisible word-break hints more than hiding a name.

Tips & limits

Can I use a blank name to impersonate someone or to spam?
Please do not. Blank or hidden characters are sometimes used to evade filters, hide text, or make accounts look anonymous, and platforms can penalise this. Use blank text for harmless things like a clean display name, spacing in a bio, or a layout trick.
How do I check which invisible character I have pasted?
Paste it into a code editor that can show whitespace and special characters, or into a character counter and see whether the length changed. The unstyle text tool can convert fancy letters back to plain text, but it is not a dedicated hidden-character detector.
What should I do if the blank character will not paste?
Check that you copied it, since a single invisible character is easy to lose. Then try another character from the table, put it in the middle of a name rather than at the edges, and on a phone long-press and choose Paste. If none work, the field restricts characters.
